Vision Development Foundation (VDF) recently distributed 1500 bags of sugar (10kg per bag) to 19 communities and institutions at a ceremony held at its office in Churchill's Town.

Momodou Turo Darboe, VDF Chief Executive Officer (CEO) said he was emulating his late father who advised him to offer gifts during the Holy month of Ramadan.

Saihou Fofana, VFD Board Member and Public Relations Officer said they hope the gesture would go a long way in helping beneficiaries during the Holy month of Ramadan.

Mr Fofana added that the gesture is part of the VDF agenda of caring and sharing. "Our able CEO (Momodou Turo Darboe) believes in caring and sharing as an important component of his operation. This Ramadan operation is one of our major operations, but we have different operations,” he added.

Ousman Yabo, former TANGO director described Turo Darboe as one of the most recognised philanthropists in the country.

He pointed out that Mr Darboe has helped thousands of people in need; pays school fees for hundreds of students at Senior Secondary School and University levels, feeds and clothes hundreds of people as well as gives out sugar, chicken, bread, tea and cash to hundreds of people who gather at the VDF Office every Ramadan.

He went on to say that Turo has also been supportive to the Government of The Gambia. According to Mr Yabo, Turo has supported certain communities by paying for the extension of their electricity from one point to another, provided boreholes, clinics among others to other communities.

He noted that Turo does not limit his generosity to The Gambia but has extended it to Senegal. He therefore described him as a West African philanthropist.

The event also witnessed the presentation of bread, dates, tea and cash to those who gathered  at the VDF Office.
