Let’s promote spirit of teamwork!

A renowned American jurist and legal scholar, who served as an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States- Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr.has once stated that ‘many ideas grow better when transplanted into another mind than the one where they sprang up.’ Therefore, teamwork is paramount in achieving any desired goal.

However, when we say teamwork, it isn't just about working in a team together. It is about working together as a team. It is about uniting efforts to successfully achieve a common goal. Now that the country’s electoral cycle is over, it is incumbent on all especially political stakeholders to put aside their differences and work towards the development of the country.

Let’s remember that politics come and go, but The Gambia is here to stay. Politics should not divide us, to the extent that it bisects our development goals.

It is nature, as people we must have differences and dissenting opinions. But that is where our maturity comes into play as humans.

Let’s not forget that our biggest strength lies in our unwavering unity. It is a fact that politics today affect us all, no matter where one lives or status. However, in view of this sensitive nature, one has to exercise wisdom and utmost care it deserves.

As political stakeholders, we can’t all be pulling in different directions even on matters of national interest. Success is attainable only if we come together and promote the spirit of team work. It is a well-known principle within development discourse that for progress to be achieved by any society, the people have to be the driving force behind it.

It is in the news that the newly re-elected mayoress of Banjul City Council, Rohey Malick Lowe, has called on the central government to foster a professional working relationship with her council.

Lowe was speaking on Wednesday during her swearing-in ceremony held at the Council’s premises in Banjul. This call isn’t all apt but important in our collective march towards development.

We cannot achieve any meaningful development amid conflict or disunity. We have to come together and join our efforts for the collective good. Let’s work as a team and with that our march towards greater development is within reach.

Let’s respect each other’s views and be ready to accept criticism. In fact democracy promotes divergent and dissenting views.

No individual, party or institution stands alone. Together we make a difference regardless of political affiliation.
